Dream Then Change

Align Your Life

Introduction

The Dream Then Change process emerged from my experience as a therapist, client, musician, and songwriter. It’s an approach that brings together established therapeutic concepts with creative insights, designed to help you navigate life’s deeper questions and find your authentic path.

This process isn’t about treading the same old ground you may have already done—it’s about compiling what works in a way that’s practical, accessible, and tailored to your unique needs. As someone who has walked both the therapeutic path and the creative journey, I’ve developed an approach that honours both the analytical and the intuitive aspects of human experience.

What Is This Exactly?

Dream Then Change is a framework for aligning your inner world with your outer reality. It’s a process that helps you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be, using a combination of self-exploration, practical tools, and supportive guidance.

The process is structured around nine key areas that form the pillars of an aligned life: Identity, World View, Core Values, Goal Setting, Implementation, and more. Each element builds upon the others to create a comprehensive approach to personal growth and transformation.

Who Is This For?

Have you ever felt like an imposter, living someone else’s life? Have you wondered who you truly are, what is your identity, meaning, and purpose?

Many of my clients come with the fundamental questions: What is it all about? How can I be happy? I feel aimless and have no sense of purpose. What’s the point?

If you’re a seeker of answers who’s ready to explore these questions—especially if you appreciate diverse music influences and creative approaches – this process may resonate with you.

The Process Overview

The Dream Then Change process follows a structured yet flexible pathway:

1. Identity – Exploring who you are beyond labels and roles.

2. World View – Understanding your personal philosophy and perspective.

3. Core Values – Identifying what truly matters to you.

4. Goal Setting – Creating meaningful objectives aligned with your values.

5. Implementation – Developing practical strategies for moving forward.

6. Alignment of Pillars – Bringing all elements together into a cohesive whole.

7. General Intelligence – Integrating different forms of knowing and being.

Throughout this journey, we’ll work with your thinking, feeling, and behaviour to create lasting change that feels authentic and sustainable.

Align Your Life
Tools and Techniques

The Dream Then Change process incorporates various techniques and approaches, tailored to your preferences and needs:

Awareness

The foundation of any meaningful change is awareness. By developing your capacity to notice what’s happening within and around you, you gather valuable information that guides your path forward.

Dreaming

This is my catchall term for accessing the state of mind where creative solutions and insights emerge. It’s about suspending conscious thought long enough to allow information from your subconscious to surface. How you access this state is flexible—meditation, mindfulness, creative expression, or other approaches that work for you.

Practical Techniques

◉ Grounding exercises to stay present and centered.

◉ Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for managing stress and overwhelm.

◉ Various mindfulness practices (adapted for neurodivergent individuals where needed).

◉ Creative expression through music, writing, or other arts.

Sources and Influences

This process draws from various sources, which are attributed where appropriate. Some material comes from working with clients over many years, and while confidentiality prevents direct attribution, their contributions are valued and acknowledged.

Key influences include:

◉ Humanistic therapy approaches.
◉ Polyvagal theory (Stephen Porges).
◉ Process Communication Model.
◉ The therapeutic videos of Emma McAdam (“Therapy In a Nutshell”).
◉ Musical and lyrical insights from diverse genres.

Musical Elements

As a songwriter and lyricist, I often incorporate musical references and insights into the therapeutic process. These elements are clearly marked and attributed, offering another lens through which to view your experience and growth.

Therapist Profile

Quentin St Clair

I am an experienced therapist trained in several modalities. As an integrative therapist I can focus on the experience of the therapeutic relationship and can adapt to your needs and style using my many years of experience working with a wide range of clients with varied issues and backgrounds.

I will help you to experience a warm therapeutic relationship to support the changes you want to make to improve your experience of life. I also use my pre-therapy experience in the music and IT industry in particular to good effect. I work with individuals, couples and young adults mostly. My focus on the relationship is enhanced by my current project using the Imago Clinical techniques. I am an accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and a trained psychotherapist.

I belong to UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners, part of UKCP humanistic school. I have had many clinical hours and a similar number in support roles with autistic spectrum, learning difficulties and psychiatric hospital clients. The majority of these are adult 1:1 though also with couples and family therapy and about one third of my hours are with children and young adults (mostly 9-25 year olds) so am experienced in all those forms. Total clinical hours are now over 5,000

I cover all types of issue from relationships, communication and self-esteem through mood disorders and dependency having worked with drugs, alcohol and gambling in the latter. In recent years I have also worked with an increasing number of neurodivergent clients, particularly with ADHD and through this and my own personal experience feel I can offer a unique perspective.

An increasing part of my work is in couples therapy using the Imago methodology and my experience as a traditional couple therapist. I am a trained Imago Therapist awaiting accreditation.
